Roney’s career began on the artist side. His archival materials trace his early story to Juilliard and a CBS Records opportunity, with his professional recording career at CBS Associated Records underway by 1988.
He later worked as part of The Ghost Brothers with his brother Chris, while expanding from performer into writer, arranger and producer. That evolution became the foundation for the executive and ownership work that followed.

TO SONY.
Roney’s documented Bell Biv DeVoe Poison-era credits include writing and arranging on “B.B.D. (I Thought It Was Me)?”, writing and arranging on “Let Me Know Something?!”, and arranging on “Ain’t Nut’in’ Changed!”.
His archival career history then places him in serious 1991 negotiations involving Quincy Jones and Benny Medina, followed by a Sony Music chapter. On Kathy Sledge’s 1992 Epic/Sony album Heart, Roney is documented as composer/lyricist on “Baby, Baby, Baby” and “Since I Found You.”

The career kept widening. After years working across records, publishing and screen music, Roney moved deeper into ownership and founded 26 Records in 2007. That shift—from signed artist to creator to owner—is central to the way he develops artists today.
